The Empire

The Sandbox is now The Empire. Special Ed and Charlie have left WFNX and assembled a podcast for the masses. If the masses are super Star Wars nerds with iPods.

You can always leave your thoughts here or on the FTW Line - 617.299.1541 - leave us a message and it might make a podcast.

The State of The Empire - Ed’s Perspective

I was just in the shower a few minutes ago and I thought about my friend Julie Kramer.  Not for self-pleasuring reasons but because I thought of something that happened earlier today.  I picked up my laundry and paid in cash.  My tab was about $35 (I don’t drop off too often…) and I handed the cashier two 20s.  He handed me my change which consisted of a 5 and a 10.  He had obviously made a mistake and I quickly handed him the extra $10.

Flash-forward to me getting pulled over by a police officer for turning right on red.  (if you missed this story it is in the latest podcast)  I deserved a ticket, especially after I was a little mouthy but Karma stepped in and took care of me this time.  If I had not returned that extra $10 to the cashier at the laundrymat you can bet your ass I would have got that ticket.

Where am I going with this?  Well, in my head the act of returning the $10 stemmed from respect.  Respect for the cashier, for myself and for the business.  Why would I rob them of $10?  I don’t need it and it isn’t mine.

The word “respect” brought my mind to you, The Sandboxers.  I respect you and what you have done over the past few days.  You have made your feelings known and continue to do so on a daily basis.  I love and applaud you for it.  Even if it had nothing to do with our silly little show you would still have my respect because stating and standing up for your passions is worthy of it.  So don’t stop until you are satisfied or that passion runs out.

I share that passion with you and feed off of your energy.  I dream of a day when I can plant my butt back in my stinky chair in the air studio of WFNX.  WFNX took a chance on our little show when we were nothing more than 3 morons with a podcast.  They gave us a chance to bring our vision of a show for The People to the airwaves.  I cherish every show we did (except for the second Monday, that one was rough) and hope that one day we can do more shows at WFNX because it really is the place that we fit.

I am sure there are some that will look at the over 1,200 of you on this Facebook page and say “Oh, he just got his friends to do it.”  I would reply with “Goddamn right!”  You are my friends.  You are not listeners, customers or clients.  You are friends.  Some I have been lucky enough to meet, others I am looking forward to meeting but you are still my friends.

If it weren’t for friends like you I would have never been on a racing boat, shot large firearms or driven a rally car.  Without friends like you to correct me on the show I would probably continue to stroll around in willful ignorance.  Without friends like the Swine Flu I wouldn’t have met Hotstock!  Not only did we become friends but you became friends with each other.  I am looking at you Wolfpack;)  I am sure that one day there will be a Sandboxer wedding and I might actually shed a tear over that.

I might be rambling now so I will close with this…

This little show, whatever its name is, is just as much yours as it is ours and if you don’t want it to die let someone know.

Bah Weep and Save The Empire!
